| Pressure
sensitive fiberglass joint tape has been on the market for over thirty years,
but only in the past decade has it gained the respect that it really deserves.
At one time, fiberglass mesh tape was more readily accepted for standard drywall
application by do-it-yourselfers than by the professional contractors who were
accustomed to paper tape. Through aggressive marketing and education, a professional
market has been established. Pressure sensitive mesh tape is manufactured with 100% fiberglass yarns, which implant tensile strength and |

stability. The leno weave locks the yarns in place. It is weave set for stability
and then a pressure sensitive adhesive is applied. The open weave is designed
to allow ease of compound flow and evaporation of moisture. One of the major advantages of pressure sensitive mesh tape is that it saves considerable time, both in application and drying time, by only having to apply two coats of compound instead of three. The initial embedding application is eliminated. When used with a setting type compound, it permits same day joint finishing. Also, the open weave construction of the mesh tape allows moisture to evaporate quickly and evenly, thus preventing bubbles and blistering. Another advantage is that there is no wicking. Fiberglass mesh tape is unaffected by mold and will not absorb moisture. This mesh tape provides a tensile strength of 75 pounds-per-square-inch. The 8-millimeter thickness of this tape is easily covered with compound. And 100% fiberglass yarns will not support combustion. It is well noted from many professional finishers that pressure sensitive mesh tape definitely aids them in saving time money through faster application, the use of less compound, and same day finishing with fewer callbacks. Quik-Tape's yellow mesh tape has become very popular and is suggested for use, as it contrasts with color of joint compound. The yellow color of Quik-Tape enables you to visually apply the proper coverage of mud initially. Should you skip any part, the yellow color will call it to your attention. White tape is equally popular. Quik-Tape has also developed Quik-Patch, a permanent wall repair patch which is an 8-by 10-inch sheet of pressure sensitive mesh with a wax paper backing. After skim coating the hole with ready-mix, the wax paper is applied over the hole. This prevents any excess ready-mix from passing through the Quik-Patch mesh. Once Quik-Patch is applied and dry, the repaired area is stronger than the gypsum board. For repairing re-occurring, vein-like cracks, try the 6- by 25-inch crack repair mesh used with ready-mix or spackle. The Quik-Tape flexible, metal corner tape is especially helpful to straighten and strengthen both inside and outside corners. Made of galvanized steel, the flex corner tape ensures against nail popping, paint chipping, edge cracking and rust. Quik-Tape is the most exciting, innovative, time-saving product in the drywall industry today.
